Sun Country Superstar!

Name: Chris Stango

Position: Rock Wall Department Leader

Tenure: 0-1 Years

How might someone describe you?
Excited!

What is your greatest fear?
My teeth touching my fork when I’m eating.

Do you have a nickname? How did it originate?
Some friends call me by my last name “Stango” because that’s a lot more interesting than “Chris”. It’s an Italian name and I’ve never met another person outside of my family with it.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Probably something typical like an astronaut or fireman.

What would you most likely tell yourself at age 13?
Invest in Google!

Where is your favorite place to be?
Sandia Crest in New Mexico

Where is the best place you traveled to and why?
Banos in Ecuador because there’s a wooden swing with no seat belts somewhere around 7,800 feet in elevation that swings over a cliff with a drop off that’s usually covered in clouds.

What might someone be surprised to know about you?
I have a black lab named Darth Vader.

What has surprised you most about working with children?
They’re often naturally great at climbing. Even if it’s their first time.

What does true leadership mean to you?
A great leader will get their hands just as dirty as the people they’re leading.

What do you wish other people knew about rock climbing?
You don’t need to have the grip strength of a gorilla and a six pack to try rock climbing for the first time. At an indoor gym there are plenty of fun beginner routes.

What are you looking forward to most as the director of a rock climbing program?
The staff that I’ve been working with has been incredibly positive and fun and I can’t wait to see what happens to the program as we continue to work together.

If you were not an employee at Sun Country, what would you be doing instead?
Probably working in restaurant management and climbing less often.

What do you find most challenging about your work?
The purple V8 right next to the desk!

If you could be any animal in the world, what would you be and why?
Some type of bird. Probably an Eagle or something big so I could fly and not get eaten.

A big thank you to Coach Chris for taking the time to answer our questions! If you ever happen to see him around the gym, feel free to share a smile and say hello! We hope to see you back again next month as we continue learning more about our hard-working Sun Country Staff!
