Dance Sun Country February Itinerary:
What a great dance year we have been having so far! All of our students are working so hard and it is such a joy to teach every one of them.
Recital dance classes will be re-opening again at the end of May! If you are currently in one of our popular new specialty classes, make sure to stay tuned if you wish to continue your child’s dance education at Sun Country. We would love to have them learn and grow with us!
Speaking of… our specialty dance classes have gotten off to a blazing start! The 1st session for Princess Ballerinas and #DanceMania is well underway and both classes have filled completely. Kids are having a blast learning all sorts of fun and exciting dance skills. If you are interested in signing up your child for the 2nd session (March 28th – May 16th), make sure to visit the desk for more information!
As we are going into February, all of our classes that are participating in this year’s Recital have begun preparing their Recital dances! This is a process that takes the next several months for the classes to learn, complete, and polish their dances. Class attendance in your regularly scheduled dance class is essential at this time of the year. When a child is absent, it not only hinders their progress, but the progress of the entire class in learning their recital dance. So much of the choreography is based on the dancers depending on each other for knowing their line-up, formations, and perhaps even assigned partners in the dance.
Many dance classes will have very specific tights or leotard requirements (colors/styles) to go with their Recital costume. To ensure that everyone has the correct style and colors, and to make it more convenient for parents, we will be placing an order for all of these items. ORDER FORMS outlining the details will be distributed to all students/classes throughout the week of February 6th. 8th. The DEADLINE for these order forms is SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 25th!
DRESS CODE FOR DANCE CLASSES
Our specific dress code requirements for each dance style & level are outlined in the Dance Sun Country brochure, as well as the Sun Country website. Please take a moment to review this to be sure your child is in compliance in regards to hair, leotard, tights, and shoes. We appreciate your cooperation in helping to uphold the dress code requirements within our Dance program!
AFTER-SCHOOL CHILDREN ENROLLED IN DANCE CLASSES
These students are also required to adhere to the dress code requirements for their specific dance-style class – including appropriate dance shoes! Please be sure to check with the front desk if you are unsure of these requirements. Please REMEMBER to send your child’s dance clothes AND hair supplies with them on their dance days!
Just a quick reminder that we do now have all the hair supplies you need for dance class for sale in the dance area of our pro-shop. We have ponytail holders, bobby pins, hair pins, hairnets, and bun kits. Please be sure that your child’s hair is properly secured before entering the dance classroom. Ballet BUNS are required for all Ballet classes; ponytails for all others!

SUN COUNTRY DANCE THEATRE (SCDT)
Sun Country Dance Theatre (SCDT), our resident non-profit performing company, will present their 8th annual “Head Start Dance Day” in February. Throughout the eight years of this event, this innovative educational outreach program has impacted the lives of over 1,400 Alachua County Head Start students and teachers from many of our area schools. Students attending the workshop are able to express themselves through participation in an age-appropriate dance class led by SCDT artistic staff and dancers. The workshop culminates with a live stage performance by SCDT, featuring beautiful costumes and introducing various forms of dance, including classical and contemporary ballet, modern, jazz, and hip-hop. SCDT considers is outreach programs to be a vital part of their mission, and is proud to provide this unique opportunity for these young students to be educated, enlightened, and entertained through this unique presentation which introduces children to the wonderful art form of dance.
