Sun Country Superstar!

Name: Paige Smith

Position: Front office & Dance Instructor

Tenure: 2 Years

  1. What is one thing you couldn’t live without?
Coffee! I always have a morning and afternoon cup to get through my busy schedule.
  2. What is the one thing you cannot resist?
I cannot resist the urge to dance! If there is music playing, I am dancing. Even if I am just doing choreography in my head. There is always movement happening somewhere

  3. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A dance teacher! I have known since I was 11 years old! However, I do remember wanting to be a veterinarian before that.
  4. What might someone be surprised to know about you?
Some people may be surprised to know that I am a vegetarian. I have been living plant based for 3 years and love it!

  5.  Did anyone influence your decision to work with youth?
Although I have always known I wanted to work with children, I am thankful for my former dance teacher Mrs. Laurie for being my mentor and allowing me to have the opportunity to assist her for years with all different dance styles, levels, and ages.

  6.  What do you wish other people knew about dance?
Dance is not just about moving to the beat of the music. It is an art form. It is creating a movement vocabulary within the body to form a unique language to communicate with.

  7. What would you tell someone who is considering joining/working in youth sports?
I would tell them to make sure they are ready for the responsibility and commitment it takes to be a role model, influencer, and educator. Children need consistency and guidance. It is important that it is taken seriously.

  8.  What is on your bucket list?
I want to challenge myself artistically and expose people to dance through performance, instruction, and movement therapy. I want to give people of all abilities the opportunity to dance and create content that audiences can connect with. I also want to use new resources, technology, and ideas to expand my creativity and further educate the world about dance.
  9. If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?
I would be a mix between a giraffe and a lioness. I am tall and graceful with a clumsy and goofy side (much like a newborn giraffe trying to walk) but I am also a leader that is strong and brave like a lioness.
  10. How did you first get involved with Sun Country?
One day a teenage girl wearing a Sun Country Dance Theatre jacket came into my old workplace. I helped her find a pair of jeans and couldn’t help but tell her I was finishing up my dance degree at UF. She informed me about a dance teaching position and I was hired just a few weeks later!
