Sun Country Superstar!

Name: Kylie Jo West

Position: AAU/XCEL, USAG

Tenure: >1 year

1. What is your favorite thing to do?
My favorite thing to do in my free time is go to the beach. There is nothing that a long day in the salt water and sun can’t help!

2. What is one thing you cannot resist?
Cookies! I try to eat healthy but anytime I am offered a cookie I can’t say no.

3. What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?
To never give up. I was definitely discouraged a lot when I was young and doing gymnastics, but there is nothing that is too big or too hard that you can’t tackle it.

4. Did anyone influence your decision to work in youth sports?
Being a gymnast was a big reason why I decided to start working in youth sports. My former coach also had a lot to do with that decision. She showed me that a coach is more than just a coach they are your mentor and someone that you look up to. I decided that I wanted to be someone’s support and mentor the way she was for me.

5. What do you wish other people knew about gymnastics?
I wish that other people knew that gymnastics is more than just a sport. It is where kids find their forever friends and bonds. They spend so much time together and go through the same struggles, so they become very close friends that they will keep forever.

6. Do you have a nickname? How did it originate?
My nickname is Jo. Which is funny because a lot of people think that is my real name. My full name is Kylie Jo. I got the nickname Jo when I was still in gym and I had another teammate named Kylie, so from then on, I was Jo.

7. If you could be any animal, what would it be and why?
I would be an elephant. Elephants have been my favorite animal since I was little because they are so pretty and intelligent.

8. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was a kid, I really wanted to own my own gym when I grew up. That dream still hasn’t changed, owning a gym is still my dream job.

9. If you could be a superhero, what would you want your super power to be?
I would want all the powers. However, since that isn’t really an option, I would want to be able to move things with my mind.

10. If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as yourself?
I would want Sophia Bush to be the actress that plays me. She has been one of my favorite actresses ever since I saw her in the show One Tree Hill.
