Can I sign up for any Digital Learning Program?

We will accept students registered in ACPS‘s digital academy and e-school. However, we strongly recommend you choose the e-school platform. The SCS program design will allow for more class interaction and mirroring of your home school setting. As classes will be clustered by grade(s), everyone will be doing the same lessons at the same time, allowing for class learning in a stimulating, less screen-time driven environment. SCS will begin with a class morning meeting, then offer group science and social studies instruction including experiments and projects. The ACSP virtual lessons will be conducted live and will also have large group language arts and math activities.

We also can accommodate digital academy students, understanding their schedule is more rigid and allows for less authentic peer interaction. If your goal is for a more independent, student driven program online, digital academy is the better choice. With this program, SCS will offer 15 minute whole class activities for language arts and math. The other times of the day, children will be working independently on their computers.

What else should I expect from Sunny’s Cyber School besides our online learning classes?

While we still don’t have final confirmation on how the Digital Academy will be modeled, we will attempt to offer these additional benefits to all students across all platforms:
Gymnastics, Ninja, rock climbing, recess on our outdoor playground, yoga, group novel reading/storytelling and two schoolwide programs (hopefully in person but if not, then virtually) per semester.

All SCS students will also experience many of the fun things we love about school: student of the week, class birthday parties (with social distancing protocols) and class jobs. So much of elementary school is focused on social emotional learning, we want to make sure to preserve those rituals as much as possible.

What makes Sunny’s Cyber School Extra Special?

Committed to building our own school community, we also don’t want our students to forget about their home schools. Therefore, we are asking that Wednesdays be school spirit day, with everyone dressing in their home school spirit wear. We will occasionally host activities grouped by your child’s home school. We also encourage those of you not staying for aftercare to consider socially distanced, safe play dates with other children from your home school on Wed. afternoons.

Can I enroll my child if they have a specific IEP or 504?

SCS welcomes children with special accommodations (such as IEPs and 504s). We will do our best to accommodate their needs but if this environment is not working for your child, they may be asked to seek another educational alternative. School should be a fun and happy space for all children, and we are excited to work with every child!

What are the qualifications of the employees of Sunny’s Cyber School?

Our new Department Leader is Debby Kinman-Ford. Bio below. The remainder of our staff will be carefully selected to provide you the most experienced, creative facilitators to engage your children. SCS wants to create a community where children look forward to learning and playing every day. We know staff sets the tone for that, which is why we are excited to provide a talented group of people who can create a cheerful, innovative and safe setting for your children to learn.

What does my child need to bring?

School supply lists will be issued closer to the start of school, but we know students will need to bring headphones, and a laptop, or other electronic device compatible with the ACPSF program. Students will take items to and from school daily. Students will also need to provide a snack and lunch for themselves daily.

What safety protocols are in place?

All of Sun Country’s COVID 19 Safety protocols that have been adopted for all programs will continue with Sunny’s Cyber School. Click here to read our disease prevention standards.

Please note that parents will only be allowed to walk their child into the classroom on the first day of school. After that drop off and pick up will happen outside of the building for everyone’s safety.

How long do I have to commit when I enroll in Sunny’s Cyber School?

We are requiring a one-semester minimum commitment to ensure that we can keep our quality teaching staff as long as possible. Although registration is for one semester at a time, our goal is to provide your child a school setting where they are so happy, they will want to continue here throughout the entire 2020-21 school year.
